EARN your RIGHT before you PROPOSE
My friend came to my office one day, he is 27 and a very dynamic guy, he looked really happy that day. After some discussion I came to know that he proposed a girl and she accepted his proposal. Further he told me that they met each other just 7 days back. I was really amused by the sheer speed all that happened.
Next day the same friend meets me but this time, happiness is replaced by sadness. After enquiry I came to know that the girl who accepted his proposal a day earlier broke up with him citing the reason that it all so happened so fast she could not think before she accepted his proposal.
Well my friends story is not a lone story, I see it all happening every day with Business Owners I meet; in different context though. The same mistake my friend did; I have seen most of the business owners doing with their clients, at one point even I did this mistake. What’s that mistake?
The mistake is; my friend did not earn his right to Propose, he did not add any value to the relationship and went on proposing the girl for long term relationship.
Most of the time, I have seen Business Owners try selling (proposing) to prospects without adding value to their lives or business, and that’s where either the Proposal doesn’t fly or even if it flies, it’s short lived. Just like in my friend’s case, eventually the relationship breaks.
Learning from the Story
- Earn your right before you propose by adding value to your prospects.
- MARKETING is all about adding value to your customers, SALES is all about proposing and closing the deal. Research shows almost 90% of MSME businesses don’t do marketing; they just try to hunt without farming.
Questions to ask our self
- What all activities I have to do in my business to add value to our prospects?
- How would I know we are adding value to my prospects and the right time to propose?
