Story- Are you winning too much?
We as business leaders we have this habit of winning in every situation we encounter with and that itself is a big challenge we as leaders face and we are not even aware of it. This is what I have learned from Marshall Goldsmith’s seminar I attended recently.
This one incidence in my life will help you understand and most importantly *realize* this better.
6 years back I was playing carrom with one of my relative and his 7-year-old son. They were one team. The game was progressing very well, at the end it was pretty close. It was all about getting that Queen and cover in the end. We all were really involved in the game emotionally, physically and mentally. When I got my queen and cover I could not hold on to my joy and expressed it vehemently.
After I got down to my senses, I realized that even though I had won the game; I had actually lost it when I saw my relatives sons emotional breakdown. When we tried calming him down, *we understood that the little kid was not upset because he had lost it but because of his father has lost. His father was a hero to him.
Learning from the story
We need not win in every situation of life, most of the times little losses are bigger wins than those actually winning it.
